Day 8 - Krakow, the ghetto, the castle

After a miserably hot night spent trying to find fresh air, we went off to discover the places of Krakow we didn't manage to see yesterday. The plan was Kazimierz (the Jewish Ghetto), Wawel Castle and then whatever we still have energy to do.

We left the house as the sun rose (around 11h30...) and walked in the scorching heat towards Kazimierz (if you're reading this in UAE, i know, .... "ugh, you think Yurope is Hot"). The jewish ghetto is quite quaint, with a lot of old Synagogue, the entry to the synagogues are not free and the insides are really pale compared to the countless Basiliks and churches (just an observation, no offense meant, there is surely a very obvious explanation).

At the turn of a street we stumbled upon the Museum of Municipal Engineering. Nerd-Gasm! We spent a couple of hours going around learning about the development of infrastructure in Krakow, which we both really enjoyed. We loved it, actually. Old cars, old tramways, engines where you can actually see what happens when you shift gears, old washing machines, old gas meters, and they had a section dedicated to printing where you could print and stamp your own paper. Seriously stoked. Aliona, in particular, was ecstatic as she managed to make her own postcard print on early 20th century printing machine and a water mark on the machine from probably the same era. Again, Aliona was jumping through the roof.

After that we kept going towards the Wawel Castle but basically erred around the Jewish quarter and stopped in a great restaurant for proper Ukrainian pelmeni with minced pork meat with some beers, and daym there were good, but of course not as good as Aliona's, or her mom's. (she wrote that)

We did end up finding the castle and had somewhat of a competition to see who could take the best photos. And here are the results. Tomorrow we will actually go to the Salt mines (like we were supposed to today) and see if we can squeeze in a visit of Auschwitz Birkenau, where Aliona threatened me to be crying, because of understandable reasons. We would like to announce in advance to our wonderful readers, that we are not going to take any pictures of Auschwitz out of respect, and we believe that it would be disrespectful to do otherwise! We most likely won't do any post about it tomorrow either in our blog as well out of the respect. So for now we hope the pictures of Wawel Castle will be satisfactory and tomorrow we will do the blog post about epic salt mines of the region!
