Day 19 - Zell am See (or not)
We were a little sad to leave Berchtesgaden without seeing all of the beauties it had to offer but we had to keep moving to be in Zurich on the 24th. Aliona's mum had been living in Zell Am See for a while and kept sending us stunning pictures while we were in Abu Dhabi so we felt like we had to go there. We left early-ish in the morning to get to Zell Am See.
As we arrived we discovered a city, with people, and railways and shops and all. Not really the quaint little mountain town we were expecting. And after seeing a baby blue Ferrari registered in Kuwait we felt like we maybe should reconsider spending time in Zell Am See. So we kept on driving. We stopped in Aldi to replenish our stores.
We knew there was a camping spot near a lake with views from the mountains etc only 20 mins away from where we were so we decided to aim for it and spend the night there. The arrival was pretty monumental on a tiny windy road between two mountains, unable to go higher than 2nd gear. Once we reached the parking was busy but ok, we managed to find a flat parking area (a rare gift). We decided to have lunch and then go for a quick reckon of the area. I made my first campervan Chili con carne (which turned out to be crazy good). After a bit we walked around the lake and tried to avoid the cows and the angry dogs.
The biggest surprise came in the fact that apparently Zell Am See is a very popular holiday area for people from the Gulf. Around the Hintersee lake there were a lot of Khaleeji drinking coffee and the signs are written and German & Arabic. It's odd.
We met a couple of French that had just come down from the mountain and chatted a bit while Aliona was playing with their gorgeous Husky.
So tomorrow we will try to wake up earlier than usual as an 8 hour hike awaits us.
