Day 18 - Around the Konigssee

The rain finally stopped today around 10. The plan was to get dressed and ready check out from the camping, go park the car on a patch of grass we had noticed before and head for a long hike that would take us to a viewing point overlooking the Königssee and try not to cry at how beautiful it all is.

We started by taking the wrong route and added 3km to the clock thanks to my amazing navigation skills and then we got on the right track. It was nice albeit a bit dull since its a wide service road inside a forest. There were a couple of cyclist going up. Incidentally I've noticed tons of electrically assisted MTB in Germany. I'd love to try one even though that will always remain cheating in my opinion.
We kept pushing until 1200m where we stopped at a chalet to have our lunch and share a beer.

We restarted and had our first 'marmotte' encounter. They were pretty far from us but a guy who was observing them lend us his binoculars to observe the animals. They're super cute and look like little balls of fur. Adorable.

We had to re-route later on because it got too late for us to go all the way up and back before dark. We took a path called Kessel which winds down the mountain really quickly and was fairly horrible and ended up at the jetty where we took a boat to get back to the starting point.

The views at the jetty were really beautiful. The boat was packed with very loud tourists. My favorite thing in the world.

Guillaume.
